OK - maybe this is crazy, but the way Ebay makes money, and lots of it, is to just charge for every ad that gets listed. Doesn't matter whether its a "For Sale", "Wanted", "Auction", or whatever. If 50 ads a day get placed, thats over $18,000 a year.

I have no idea what the economics of this site are, or what is worthwhile to keep it going, but it seems to me, that if you place an ad, you should pay for it somehow.

Now regarding FREE email accounts, well thats simple, just make everyone who wants to use a free email account provide a credit card with a one time access charge of $12 to be able to post, reply, answer an ad, etc. If you can't afford $12, then you shouldn't be here.

OK - Everyone who hates me or this idea speak up. If you like the idea, speak up too. I have only bought and sold a few things here, but I see people who really use this site a lot, and really need a way to buy and sell used gear, so its obviously worth it to many to have this site stay viable, and the only way I see that happening is with money.

I heard that WO showed some new eyepieces at Astrofest in London. They were supposedly new Planetary eyepieces of their own design.

Did anyone go to Astrofest in London and see these???

I am dieing for more details as I am interested in something around a 3mm but don't want to spend the $$$ for a Radian, and I can't mention the other I was considering for much less money.

If anyone saw them or has details, please pass them on to this group.

I have a question that has been bothering me for a while about baffles in a refractor.

Do they matter? Televue, I believe doesn't use them, others use knife edge baffles, foam baffles (that is what is in my Megrez 80), and cone baffles. But every time I try to think about this and draw it out on paper, it appears to me that even the best baffles become rather meaningless if a significantly long dew shield is in place and the inside surface is a non-reflective black surface. So it makes me wonder how much they really affect viewing and photographic use.

Is there a way to test whether baffles make a difference or not, either visually or photographically? If so, how could this be done?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Hi,

I just got the Orion Highlight Plossl 6.3mm, and it definitely is NOT parfocal with the TV plossls. But it was on sale, and still is, and seems to perform well for the price. I haven't had the chance to really test it enough to write a review comparing it to my TV plossls but it does of course suffer from VERY short eye relief, and has a very small lens.
