University Optic 25MM Mk-70

Posted By Anthony Valvo

I'm thinking about picking up this eyepiece for use in my f5 12.5" dob and with my TMB 105/650. Does anyone have feedback on this eyepiece in fast scopes. I've heard generally good things, but would like more input.

My Giro Knock Off

Posted By Anthony Valvo

After admiring so many good projects on this forum. I set out to make my own. This Alt/Azm mount was custom machined
from solid stock in my home shop. The 1.25" shaft rides on a 3" UHMW bearing. The mount body is similarly set up. Motions aregreat, like butter. It will never need lubrication, and tension is easyily adjustable with the big knobs. I think the whole thing weighs in at about 10lbs, not counting the brass counter weight. Saddle plate is from a Gm-8, so I can have the OTAinterchangable on both mounts.

What do you think?

Thanks,

I think there is a book on Widefield Astrophotography on the S&T webtsite. Great book, all you need to know, and very practical.

Go to Cloudynights.com and look up the review for the TMB/650/105 CNC. This is a big 4 incher, as it sits on the g-8 it looks more like a five inch scope. FYI this mount works very well with just about every 4 incher out there.

AP is for astronomy or speculation?

Posted By Anthony Valvo

I think the days of speculation are coming to an end. It will take some time for that waiting list to dwindle, but it will happen. I see some highend refractors going for muchless here on Astromart than a year ago. There are also, many more entrants in to the market - TMB etc. - with good abvailability schedules and equal performance.

This hobby/buisness is not immune to the laws of supply and demand. More entrants and better competitive products mean lower prices. AP is smart enough to know this, else they'd be increasing there prices until the waiting list disappered. Any way, I would not take my chances on a AP Speculative bet these days.

Your milage may vary!

Commit to a deal, stick with the deal!

Posted By Anthony Valvo

Agreed!

I have had this happen several times. People commit and then change their minds. In the meantime, I've turned away other buyers. Yes you can always go back, but then people often smell blood and are looking for you to reduce your price.

If you commit then stick to it. I always do!

12-inch premium Dob

I don't think you will find anything as portable and easy to set-up / breakdown as the 12.5 Ball. However, the Starmasters are an excellent option and do allow the use of setting circles, a feature your not likely to be using that much since you have the 8" Ball now.

Much can be said of Pete's 12.5" scope. I think it is the best in his line and offers the best combination of portability, optics and light gathering power. You are correct that not many people sell these and that says something. By-the-way, many of the balance problems in the 8" are not existent in the 12.5".
