5" (127mm) f/8 Antares (prototype) refractor on CG5 mount w/dual axis motor and steel tripod. This refractor looks physically indentical to the one from Burgess Optical. Very heavy and solid like a tank.

6" f/5 Orion Skyview reflector on EQ3-2 mount w/dual axis motor and steel tripod.

Quality of those expensive short focal length eyep

Posted By Pollux Chung

I have seen quite a few eyepieces with focal lengths at 2.5mm, 2.9mm, 2.3mm from Orion, Vixen , etc etc and they are very expensive.

I am wondering how's the quality of these eyepieces. Do they cause more abbreations than a slightly cheaper, longer focal length eyepieces with barlow?

2.3mm Eyepiece: Celestron X-CEL vs Orion Lanthanum

Posted By Pollux Chung

I wonder if anyone here has tried both.

How's the quality of them anyway?

All I know is that Celestron's is cheaper and (much) taller.

Orion's SkyView Pro with 2" steel legs??

Posted By Pollux Chung

I heard that the newest version has the 2" steel legs.

I wonder if it's the same as the one used on Celestron's CG5 mount.

Just want to have some confirmation.

My Pentax 105SDP arrived last Friday

Posted By Pollux Chung

Been "busy" playing with this little fella for a few days now. Sharpness, contrast, field flatness, star test are incredible.

Absolutely love it smile

When the weather turns nice again I may do a more through review of this scope along with my 75SDHF.

Posted By Pollux Chung

Here's me and my new scope - Vixen VMC260L

Got it a month ago and its first light happened two weeks ago in the Merritt Star Quest at the Loon Lake Road Observing Site in Merritt, BC. Great timing 8)

Love this scope. It performs a lot better than I expected.

I am in the middle of writing a review of this scope so stay tuned smile

sirius MV 1 vs. Orion V-block

Posted By Pollux Chung

I have tried both Sirius MV20 and Baader Fringe Killer

They both are very very good. However, if you are planning to stick the filter on a diagonal then you will have to go for the Fringe killer because it's the only filter that doesn't cause "ghosting"

In the case of Sirius and other brands you have to thread the filter directly on eyepiece to avoid the ghosting. Imagine you have to change eyepieces all the time, this can be a real pain in the a$$.

Counterweight weights and EQ1/2/3/4/5/6

Posted By Pollux Chung

EQ 1 and 2 have two counter weight options - 2lb and 4lb. They have 1cm bore.

Counterweights for EQ3/4/5 have the same bore size (app 2cm). Available in 11lb, 7lb, 4lb. The 4lb and 7lb have the same outer diameter while the 11lb is around 20% bigger (diameter). Usually EQ3 come with 7lb and 4lb. While the EQ4/5 come with 11lb.

As for EQ6, I did see the mount in person but I didn't have a very close look at it. What I saw was that the mount come with two 11lb counterweight. I assum these weights are the same 11lb ones used on EQ5
