Saturn 03/29/2006

Posted By Kaz Chmielowiec

Hi all. This is my first post in this category.
First of all, I am impressed with the amazing, beautiful and detailed planetary images that you folks make.
Most of these images posted are from scopes 8" and up.
Mine is a AP155 f7 and I am having a hard time comparing images from simmilar scopes since very little are posted. I would like to compare and know if I can attain better quality than the humble one I currently imaged and attached to this post, or is this the limit for this type of scope.
Thanks for all your input; Kaz

Jupiter, Saturn or Mars avi's

Posted By Kaz Chmielowiec

I have seen amazing images of the planets taken thru a 6" apo refractor, latest posted by a TEC160FL.
I have a AP155EDFS and cannot come even close to some of these. I always thought that it was the 6" aperature limiting the resolution as well as seeing conditions which are horrible in my area.
Would anyone be willing to share a fiew seconds of their avi's taken thru a 6" apo refractor related to their final Registax image so that I can compare it to my avi and my seeing conditions.

Rainbow in my objective?

Posted By Kaz Chmielowiec

Hi all. I am not an expert on objective lenses.
I purchased this scope (AP155EDF) almost a year ago and noticed this just now. The color rings can only be seen under certain angles to the lens. I did not notice it before becouse there was no reason to look for trouble, since I thought the scope performance is superb. Now I am wondering if this is a flaw caused by a pinched lens by some previous owner trying to collimate it. I am worried that I am not getting 100% from this scope. The scope was hand exchanged from the previous owner, it was handled very carefully by me all this time and the lens never adjusted by me. Please comment and offer help.
Thanks; Kaz.

Unexpected capture

Posted By Kaz Chmielowiec

Last night, 02/19/2011 at aprox 7 pm while photographing M42,
I captured the following trail with my Canon 2Ti.
The frames are 20 sec long each taken every 5 seconds.
Too slow for a satelite, is it an asteroid? Scratching my head
as to what it might be. Thanks for your input.

Hi Alan. Excellent shot and imaging at such a low elevation. Thanks for sharing. I finally know what I should expect from my 6".

Nagler 9mm Type 1 vs. Nagler 9mm Type 6

Posted By Kaz Chmielowiec

HiChuck.
I recently decided to replace my two Naglers 9mm type 1's (smooth barrels
"Japan r") with the 9mm type 6.
The first one came in two days ago.
Since it was cloudy, I tested it with my AP155 on a radio tower which has a lot of fine lines.
I discovered that focus while sharp in the center, deteriorated going toward the edges. I focused at the edge and found that it has defocused at the center.
I immediately tried the type 1 and it was very much less defocused than the type 6.
Yesterday I received the second one and it showed the same results as the first one. I think that the type 6 eyepiece pushes the limits of compact design.
I tried the type 6 in my bino and it was ok, but when viewing in the bino, one does not see the edges of the field of view. I have not tested this on the sky yet, but for now it looks as if I will be keeping my Nagler Type 1's.
