I am 5' 9" tall and when I have my 14.5" Skymaster dob pointed at the zenith I have to use a short stool to reach the eyepiece. My taller son at a little over 6'is able to see right in. I guess the answer to your question partially depends on how tall you are.

At WalMart I got a 45-gal Rubbermaid storage box with wheels at one end. I used some heavy cardboard to build a platform that raised the bottom so that it needed less foam. Here's a photo.
