Guidescope and rings recommendations

Posted By Luis Bartolomei

Hi folks,

I am trying to get into astrophotography with my TV 102 on my GP (not DX) mount. The 102 is attached to the GP via the TV clamshell ring. I will have a reducer/corrector that will bring the f ratio down to 6.9. I will attempt to guide with a Pictor 201XT (gulp!) and my SS2K. (I know, I need the 'special' cable. Incidentally, if anyone knows where I can get one, I would kindly appreciate advice on that as well.)

My question: Any budget-conscious tips or advice on what I shoud use to guide? Is off axis possible, given my use of the reducer/corrector, since the camera threads right into it? Guidescope/rings set-up that could incorporate the clamshell? Get rid of the clamshell and go for another ring system? Accesory plate - balance problems with that?

Any input as to the above would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you all in advance.

God is telling me something (and a solar question)

Posted By Luis Bartolomei

I was mulling over putting my PST on the block to free up some $.

I took it to work today, and in between clients, I just observed for about 15 minutes. In that time I saw a prominence that shot out to about 1/5 of the sun's diameter and then broke off into space. HOLY COW! The PST stays.

I had not seen that kind of action before. Was that a flare or just a spectacular prominence?

Solar question

Hi All.

I just got back inside from observing with my PST. I ssaw the most incredible prominence I've seen in the months I've owned the scope.

The thing started out a a very bright prominence, then is rose out of the sun into space, and kept on going! 8O The thing stretched out from the sun to about 1/5 of the sun's diameter before it broke off. Was that a flare or just a spectacular prominence?

Thanks.

Need advice on good college fund investments

Posted By Luis Bartolomei

Hello,

Do any of you have good recommendations for where to put some college $$ for my kids (ages 4 and 2)? I feel like I'm starting too late already!

Any experienced advice is greatly appreciated.

Best,
Luis B.

Shot it a couple of weeks ago. I love this cluster. Minimally processed with CCDOPS 5. Used my old C-8 in Fastar configuration on my GP. Unguided (can you tell? sad ). I'm either having trouble with my drives or with my alignment. Can't tell which yet.

Any criticism and/or advice is welcome. Particularly on how to reduce the size of those stars!

Lumicon refractor easy guider

Anyone tried these out yet? Wondering about getting one. It would save me the additional $$ of mounting a guidescope on my already taxed Vixen GP.

Anyone tried these out yet? I'm thinking of picking one up. It would save me the $$ of mounting a guidescope on my already taxed Vixen GP. I'll be shooting with my ST-237 through my TV-102.
