I am contemplating selling my LX90. While it is a great scope, I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on a scope that excels on planets? I am considering a 9.25GPS or C11GPS.
I know that I am probably asking a question that has an infinite amount of answers, but my primary focus would be visual use on planets. I would prefer to stay under $2K, but may be willing to do more for a complete computer system outfit.

I am trying to decide between the purhase of a Meade 10"Lx200GPS w/UHTC or a Celestron 9.25" XLT Advanced mount with goto.
I can get the 10" for around 2400. The Celestron will come in around $2000.
I would like a great visual scope, but also have a desire to do webcam photography.
Is the $400 higher cost of the Meade worth it? Or should I go with the 9.25? Are the supposedly legendary optics of the 9.25 better than the Meade 10"?

Was hoping for some feedback. I currently have a N11 GPS XLT scope that I am pretty happy with. I want to start doing some deep sky astrophotography, specifically with a Canon Digital Rebel. I also have several small refractors.
Should I buy a wedge for the N11 and mount everything on that? Or, should I buy an equatorial mount (looking at LXD75)? My budget is $500.00

I now have an 8" f/5 newtonian. I have an Ultima 2x barlow that I used to use for my SCTs, but there's just not enough focal length (2000mm) with this combo.
I am interested in perhaps a 3-5x barlow. Any suggestions? I have been looking at the Powermate barlows. The 4x 2" barlow looks nice, but is pricey. The 5x 1.25 barlow is about a hundred dollars cheaper. With my system, which would you get?
I will use it for visual and webcam.

One more thing to consider. Don't use a very bright star if you want to see diffraction rings. I'd say you'd want to look at something between 2nd-3rd magnitude. I never see diffraction rings on anything brighter.

I agree with what everyone has said so far. It is a good deal for the beginning astronomer, to get an idea of what things look like through various focal lengths, but you will ultimately want to ugrade to better eyepieces.

I agree with everything you've said. There seemed to be a tremendous amount of interest, but now that they are available, no reviews.
The optics of the Meade and Celestron SCTs(8") are very similiar. For a while, Celestron was optically a little better than Meade, but I believe that comparing two good SCTs from each would result in little difference optically.
The mount is the major concern. Is the lxd75 mount substantially better than the 55? Are users experiencing the same bugs as the 55?

I just put an order in for one yesterday. The current wait is 4-5 months. For the price, its probably worth the wait. No deposits are needed. He hand makes everything, so it should be darn good quality.
