Meteor in Orion

About 03:15 UT I happened to see a meteor N-S ending just past Orions belt. I've never seen one quite like it , it was travelling slower than most, and its color was a dark orange, or possibly bronze with an irregular halo around a dense nucleous. Possibly a piece of orbital debris?
