Meade LX5 Drive Base Problem

Posted By Richard Kramer

My Meade LX5 drive base seems to be doing some funny things.

When I plug in the base the RA drive runs fine but if I try to run Dec motor it shuts off after a few minutes, and the light goes out. Almost like it is getting overloaded. I then need to unplug the drive, wait a few seconds and plug it back in, then it works again. The problem seems to be intermittent. I do not have any way to diagnose the problem myself. Is it possible that a resistor is going bad or something? Has anyone else had any problems similar to this? Is there some sort of surge protection shutoff? I am considering taking it to my local telescope shop to have them look at it. Would Meade be able to replace any of the electronics on this scope? I know it was built in 1989.

Thanks for any advice or suggestions

Richard
