My first Moon

Posted By Marco Paolilli

I just tried my first ever image of the moon using a CCD camera ( Audine with KAF401E ) and a 10" F4.8 newtonian : 20 images 1/10 sec each through an H-alpha Astronomik 13nm filter, processed using Registax3 ( Image rescaled 1.5 x ).

To much wavelet..... ????

Clear skies,

Marco

My first image in Drift Scan Mode

Posted By Marco Paolilli

After reading about the SLOAN Digital Sky Survey in the February issue of S&T, I had to try the Drift Scan Mode of my camera to check what kind of results were possible.

DSM allows to get pictures of stripes of the sky that are wide as the camera horizontal resolution and tall at will, without moving the camera, that is without using a mount to track the sky sideral motion.

This was very appealing to me because I'm still fighting with my mount to get consistent autoguided results.

After a few days of poor weather, I had a chance to try yesterday night for the first time.

I attached a cropped image of the full stripe : an area including M42 .

Full size image is available at :

http://www.astrosurf.com/mpaolilli/m42drift.jpg

Technical details are :

Tele = Newt. 10" F4.8 ( 1200mm )
CCD camera = Audine with KAf401E ( 9x9 um pixels )
Equivalent integration time : 60 seconds
North is UP.

I'd really appreciate to know of anyone who uses this method to share info !

Clear skies,

Marco

M13 with EQ6 and Vixen R200SS ( + Audine CCD )

Posted By Marco Paolilli

Hello everybody, it's my first post here !

Finally ( clouds allowing and in spite of a full moon ...), I had a chance to test my new setup : EQ6 pro + Vixen R200SS autoguided using a Philips Vesta webcam on a piggybacked 3" refractor ( + Guidedog ):

http://www.astrosurf.com/mpaolilli/m13_test2.jpg

Sum of 25 x 120 seconds. It's a test image, without flats. R200SS is still without coma corrector as you can see easily...

Guide ( at 0.5x ) was very smooth . I only add a drift of about 10-15 pixels in the whole imaging section ( 1 hour + ) due to field rotation. Using a webcam, I had to find a guide star quite far away from M13.

Larry,

nice image !

I tried the same object a few days ago with my 10" F4.8 newtonian and an Audine (NABG KAF401E) camera : image was rescaled 2x using the Drizzle command in IRIS.

Waiting for my own color frames, i will borrow yours for a try... wink

Ciao,

Marco
