What do I need?

Posted By Richard Shreck

I am new to Astromart, This seems to be a great forum for info. Please excuse my ignorance, but I am here to learn. I am very interested in Astro imaging. I have a Meade EXT70 goto scope and in a couple of days I will have a Orion XT10 (no-goto, no tracking). I am very interested in the nebulae and planetary images I see you pro's displaying here. They are awesome. What do I need for my scopes to be able to capture this stuff? I am mostly interested in the webcams. I don't have a webcam or adapters at this time. Any help or comments would be appreciated. grin

Drive for dobsonian

What is a good drive for an Orion X10 that won't break my piggy bank...or is there one?

constant cloud cover

Posted By Richard Shreck

GRRRR! Got a new 10" DOB and for the 4th night in a row the clouds have left me frustrated...Solid overcast! Today was clear to partly cloudy all day, but now as it approches twilight, the big boys have come rolling in and and left me under a blanket once again. Such is life.

EQ mount for 10" DOB?

Posted By Richard Shreck

Has anyone out there tried to build an EQ mount for a DOB this size? I like my Orion XT10, but an EQ mount for it would make it the perfect scope for me...I think. Anyone see any problems with this? I have a machine shop, and could probably build one. Any Thoughts for this beginner?

First image for me

Posted By Richard Shreck

This is not up to par with most of you big boys, but i was excited just to get it onto my computer screen. It was taken with a Kodak digital camera held up to the eyepiece of my Orion XT10 DOB.
not much, but its a start I suppose.
My attempts at Saturn and M42 with the same method have been blurry disappointments.

horsehead nebula

Posted By Richard Shreck

I am either looking at the wrong object, or not enough power, or something, but I have not seen this nebula yet! I am using a Orion XT10 DOB. I have tried using a Ultrablock, Barlow, no barlow and everything from 25mm to 5 mm eye pieces.
I live in the burbs...think I just need darker skies, or????

webcams

Posted By Richard Shreck

I am new at this, so I wanted to ask you experts. I want a webcam type camera for DSO imaging. Webcam because I cannot afford an SBIG or Digital rebel. What should I get? I have a 10" f5 Newt.

fucuser upgrade

Posted By Richard Shreck

What would be a good focuser upgrade for an Orion XT10 DOB? The one that cam stock on it is not the greatest for making fine adjustments.
