LXD75 SN6- some EPs can't reach focus?

Posted By mark suhovecky

Hey Folks-

I just took delivery of a Meade LXD75 SN6 telescope yesterday. While the astronomer's curse (rain) has kept me from doing any real obeserving with it yet, I've noticed that I can't achieve focus with some of my eyepieces, all Televue: specifically, a 20mm & 40mm Plossl, and a 4.8mm Nagler. My Televue 8-24mm zoom works fine, another 40mm works fine (Scopetronix), as do the rest of the eyepieces in my stable. I've got the focuser racked all the way out, and I'd bet another quarter inch would do it. I dimly recall being told once that Teelvue EPs are parfocal within a series. Very frustrating. Comments or advice are welcome.

Thanks,

Mark

LXD75 mount slewing misbehavior

Posted By mark suhovecky

The weather has finally broken here, and I've had my LXD75 6" SN out the last two nights. I don't have an autostar- I've got the EC version of the scope, with the hand controller.

My problem is this: the scope, for reasons unknown to me, often inexplicably switches into high speed slewing mode from tracking mode or from slower slewing speeds. Sometimes when this happens, I cannot get slewing to stop, and I've actually had to power cycle the mount electronics to regain control before the OTA reaches the tripod legs!

Has anybody else experienced theis sort of behavior? I talked a guy in my Astro club last evening who had similiar eperiences with the old LXD55.

Any help appreciated,

Mark

Playing around a bit more with this today, the 20mm Televue is within a hair of focus. The 40mm needs an additional finger's width or so to achieve focus.

Bob-

Thanks for the pointers to replacement hand controllers.

I spent a bit of time on the phone with Meade Tech support
this week, and got an RGA number to return the controller.
If that doesn't work, I may be getting one on my own.

Thanks,

Mark
