When comparing the weight bearing capacity of equatorial mounts, do you use the combined instrument and counterweights, or just go by the instrument weight alone ??

SCT 2" visual back

I'm looking at buying one of the SCT visual backs that allows the use of a refractor style diagonal (AP Maxbright) and have a question: Are the visual backs with 2 compression ring screws, like the AP and Mercury Support Systems, better at holding a heavy load than others, like the Televue, that only have one screw ???

Have you done any study of Fluid Jet Polishing ?? I ran across a description of ot while reading about bowl feed polishing, and started wondering what would give the absolute smoothest surface possible.

Wood tripods

I've got it in my head that I want a relatively easy set-up to use for my backyard. I've had a G11 Gemini and that was way too much trouble for me to drag all that outside. What I seem to have settled on is some type of alt-az head on a nice looking adjustable wood tripod supporting a 4 or 5 inch apo. Does anyone have any tripod comparisons between the Televue-AP-Takahashi, Etc ??

How does Yuri produce a 140mm f7 oil spaced triplet apo with 3.5" Feathertouch for $4750 when all of the other premium apo makers usually charge $6K for a 130 f6?? is it harder to produce the smaller lens at f6 than the larger one at f7 ??? or are their other factors to consider ??

Lens alignment accuracy

The newly announced Stellarvue SV135 f5.4 Dual-Fluoro Triplet is 'posed to have its elements aligned to an accuracy of 3 microns throughout. Does anyone know what "typical" alignment accuracy is for a apo from Tak, TV, AP etc ??
