Is Zeiss Laboval 4 head useable?

Posted By Gerry Moloney

I have a chance to acquire one of these microscopes for $300.00 Is it worthwhile for the binocular head?
Some advice would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a Website or a FAQ where these issues are discussed and explained?

12"Lx200 focus problem

Posted By Gerry Moloney

I recently purchased a second hand LX200 12". There appears to be a fault with the focussing. I have been attempting to star test my new scope. However The scope will not stay focussed, it slips out of focus all the time when looking up. I am aware that it is the main mirror which moves during focussing in these scopes. When I focus a star the mirror appears to slump out of position all the time. The focused image just starts to bloat and slips more and more out of focus This of course renders the scope unusable and I am very concerned about it.
Have you seen this discussed anywhere in the www?
Any discussion of this problem would be appreciated.
Thanks
Gerry

Browse option gone?

Posted By Gerry Moloney

It does not seem to be possible anymore to do a 'browse by location' I really miss this facility.
I like the thumbnail pics though ....we dialup users wonder why it is necessary to post a 500mb pic of an eyepiece....loading these large pics is now at the browsers discretion

Connection to Traveler

Posted By Gerry Moloney

Hi Group
Can any Traveler owner share with me a good method of coupling a Coronado etalon to the Traveler
I use a spare Traveler cap and I have built in a thread-on adapter to this cap to mount the (pre) filter
Trouble is, as Traveler owners know, one can never be sure if the Sliding dewcap is perfectly parallel to the optical axis of the telescope either when fully extended, fully retracted, or anywhere in-between. Because it is a sliding fit and because there is felt like material in there, the perfect alignment of the Ha filter and the optical axis of the scope is never guaranteed. I frequently notice that tweaking gives better results, meaning that some misalignment has occurred, yet again since my last tweaking, sigh.... My Traveler is the only refractor that will allow me to binoview in Ha light. Disappointingly a Pronto I bought as a dedicated Ha for my 60mm Coronado cannot be used with a binoviewer at low powers without barlowing
Anybody have a way around this?

Do you like the new design?

Yes I liked it too .... you could confine a search to ads from a particular continent/state. Is it really gone?
