Hi all, this is my first post in this forum although I have been enjoying your work for a while. Constructive critism of this image would be welcome. I have alot of trouble trying to get colour in my stars. It is 5 hours of 15 minute subs (full moon, very average seeing) through an NP-101 with a sbig st-2000xcm (one shot colour). I have posted my usual work-flow in Neils forum. Any advice or suggestions would be most appreciated.

M33 - colour in the stars

Hi all,

Here is a recent image of M33 which I reprocessed. 7 x 20 min subs; NP-101, G-11, ST-2000XCM. Good seeing, Took some of your advice; kept as fits files until the end, downloaded Noel Carboni's actions (noise reduction and star colour). Pre-processed and aligned in Maxim (trial edition). Comments, suggestions and constructive criticism would be most appreciated.

IC 443

Hi all,

Here is my first try at IC 443. 12 x 20 min. subs, NP-101, ST-2000XCM (one shot colour), G11. Good seeing, bad transparency. I might try a mosaic. Oh it'd be nice to have the ST-4000!!! Since I'm dreaming, may as well go for the 11000.

Comments and constructive criticism would be appreciated.

Well the weather finally broke a bit this weekend and I was able to dig out my dome. The seeing was terrible, and the moon limited imaging time but I was just happy to collect some photons again - and happy to see that everything still works after 3 months in deep freeze. Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

NP-101, G11, ST-2000XCM, 12 x 10 minutes

Hi all, I know we've all seen this a thousand times but... Seeing was great last night, but transparency was poor. First time trying 30 minute subs. NP-101; G-11; SBIG ST-2000XCM (7 x 30 minute subs). Comments and suggestions are always welcome.

Hi all,

I just bought an ST-10XME with the CFW8a and filters. Should be an upgrade from my ST-2000XCM (which is for sale by the way)

I have a couple of questions and thought perhaps I could "ask the experts"?

1. It is the blooming version of the camera and the previous owner sent me photos with terrible looking blooms streaking from the brightest stars - I presume these should be easy to get rid of? What is the best way to process out the blooms?

2. I have read some reports of internal reflections off the CCD coverslip can cause halos around some bright stars - Is this really an issue?

3. I'm concerned about the possibility of vignetting through the 1.25" filters when coupled to my NP-101, should I be?

First light with ST-10 - questions

Hi all, well my new camera arrived last night so I just had to try it out. Drove out to the cottage/dome. The ST-10 is extremely sensitive! I played around with the camera quite a bit,and the seeing was terrible but I did get this luminance image of the M81 region with only 10 x 3 minute subs. I know it needs alot more data, but I had to drive back last night and ran out of time. I have a couple of questions:

1. What is the best software to deal with the blooms? I used CCDops and it is quite cumbersome (and I didn't do a great job)
2. There are "reflections" resembling star spikes around some of the stars that bloomed. Is this also a consequence of the blooming?
3. I also had to get rid of microlensing artifacts - does anyone have any suggestions for removing these?

strange smudge in flats

Hi all,

I closely analyzed the flat that I was getting from my 'new' ST-10. It seems to have a strange smudge that is apparent regardless of color filter that I use. I think (hope...)it might be a fingerprint on the protective coverglass over the chip(my camera is in my dome so I don't have access to it right now to check). What do you think?
