Georgia Sky View - Conditions?

Posted By Mike Harvey

Has anyone observed from this site and from, say, Winter Star Party or Chiefland?
I'd appreciate a comparison of the sky conditions.

Thanks!

How do I get a (bogus) bad rating removed?

Posted By Mike Harvey

In over 6 years of using AMart, I have NEVER received anything less than a perfect transaction rating...until now.

Recently I had a negative rating posted by a person who has never spoken or communicated with me in any way, except that he sent an email stating he wanted to buy an eyepiece I was selling. His email was not sent in time -the eyepiece had already been sold.

I normally respond to all emails, even if the item has been sold...as a matter of courtesy. Evidently I overlooked responding to this particular person.

He never communicated his dissatisfaction to me. The first I knew was when he posted a negative rating.
This has caused my otherwise perfect rating to be downgraded.

I have posted a comment to this effect in the ratings listings...but it doesn't change my rating downgrade.
Do I have any recourse to change this?

Thank you,

Mike Harvey

Eyeball fogging

Posted By Mike Harvey

Hi Jeff...

I was the one who posted that comment re: the LE's fogging due to "eyeball heat/humidity".
It can be reduced by folding down the rubber eyecups and eliminated by eyepiece heaters...but,in my location (Florida) the heat had to be turned up rather high. So much so that it induced some "seeing" effects of its' own!
This will vary depending upon your local conditions.

Max magnificationg for galaxy viewing

Since you specifically stated that you wanted to observe "detail" in galaxies, I'd encourage you to try the highest magnifications that seeing conditions and the aperture of your scope will allow.
While many galaxies are "nice to look at" at low power, they take on a whole new demension at higher powers.
I'm fortunate enough to have a huge (28") StarStructure for deep sky observing and have found 300X - 400X to be a "sweet spot" for most galaxies (at least in this particular scope).
Try pushing your scope until you reach the point of diminishing returns.

APM 100ED Binocular

I have a pair and rate them them superior to my (previous) VIXEN 25X125's and NIKON 20X120's.
In my opinion, they are the 'best buy' of all the large binos out there.
