Aperture Fever

Posted By George Andrew

I have a 12.5" Discovery split tube PDHQ. I "think" I want to go bigger. Does anyone out there have any experience with what size would be next? I would think that in a 15" you would only see a marginal difference. Definitely going truss (if I go) and I want a F5.

Posted By George Andrew

If anyone is interested, my friends and I are going to James Baird State Park in NY on Thursday. This park is in Dutchess county. You will need to contact me about our get-together, as I will need to contact the parks department.

I'm NOT thinking about buying a APO. But can someone tell me the difference of what you will see through a APO refractor vs. a HQ DOB. I'm only interester in visual observing. I'm not interested in CCD/ SLR/ film astrophotography. I want to see it with my own eyes.

PS This should open a LARGE CAN OF WORMS !

2006 BFSP

Posted By George Andrew

The 2006 BFSP will be my 1st star party.
I was wondering about the registration.
Can anyone tell me how fast the spots fill up?
I have herd lots of different stories.
Some say it takes a couple of weeks. Others say it’s like a Springsteen concert.
Yes I’m just a little anxious. The weather is killing me.

Mini Star party Friday night the 27

Posted By George Andrew

If anyone is interested, my friends and I are going out Friday night the 27. To Lake Taghkanic state park in NY. The weather should be clear and not two cold. Lows should be in the mid twenties. That’s astronomy in NY this time of year. Bring the winter coat and scope. I'll bring the RAC permission slip to be there.

What your opion ?

I have a Discovery 12.5" F5 split tube PDHQ. Well I'm thinking bigger! I love this scope don't get me wrong, but I'm thinking about a 17.5" F5 Discovery truss tube or something. I'm tall, so the F5 height will not be a problem. First does anyone have any opinions on this scope? And second, the more complicated question, what is the difference between a Discovery with a plain mirror and say an Obsession with one of those high tech coatings? I live here in the northeast where seeing conditions can suck to say the least. Would all that high tech coating help? Would it be a waste of money? Last is anyone interested in buying my scope? I’m not ready to sell it just yet. But I’ll need to see what I can get for it before I upgrade.

14" Tscope

smile I have a friend that ordered a TScope. He was told 3-4 months. smile He canceled it after waiting almost 2 years! :S Every few months he called to see when, and was told next month. sad He was told the primary mirror was ready but he needed the box. :C Then the box was ready and he needed the primary. I find this a little ridicules. cwy He's NOT an axe grinder but I am. >sad When I ordered my Discovery PDHQ I waited an extra month. But not a year and a half! I hope your wait was worth it.
