balance issues

Marcin
It is the size of your pads .I remember the pictures of your scope and noted 3" long teflon pads.
Sorry ,I meant to send you a comment when I seen the pictures, but forgot.

Burgess Optics TMB PLanetary Review

Posted By joe colontonio

Floyd
Thanyou for posting!!! grin
What a wonderful non-bias well thought out report.

The only bias I see is from your eye for a warmer lens comparing the radian to bo-tmb.

I have done direct comparisons with the 4mm 6mm with the radians and got the same results with the radians showing better contrast with the bands, but my eyes have a cooler lens bias and I can see finer detail with the bo-tmb.
For example: I was looking at Jupiter with a friend and we both could see Io and its shadow as it came across Jupiter. Soon my friend could no longer see the moon but I still could. He put in his tv plossl and could see the moon again but I could not. Strange.
The scope I used is my 10 f6 dob. I have the 4mm 6mm 9mm bo-tmb and will order the 3.2mm 5mm 7mm.

I do not wear glasses but I have deep eye sockets.
I hate to mash my eye against eps. I need the eye relief and love the wider field.
I own the 13mm t6 and love it. I bought the 7t6 and 9t6 with out looking thru one and was very dissapointed and sold them for a loss quickly.
Reviews are a great tool for buying that perfect ep. But you should always try for yourself before you buy unless they have a good return policy.

Wider...or...Thicker? Design Question, Not Spam

Bill
I would say both. The force of the spider is pushing outward. You would better serve your purpose with more width. More thickness to better support the focuser. Also what kind of plywood wink would make a huge difference. Joe

Burgess/TMB 3.2mm performance

Posted By joe colontonio

Doug I have only used the 3.2 one morning on jupiter and the moon in a 80 ed. f7.5. It is very clean and sharp right to the edge. On the Moon it was fantastic no off-axis glare issues at all .Without testing on my main scope 10 f6 I would have to say this is the best of the bunch. It will take further testing to determine.

I also have the 4 5 6 7 9. I have considered the 4 the best previously. but I consider them all very good.
I have not done a direct comparison with the 3.2 to a radian so I can not say.
I have done a direct with the 6 and my eyes prefer the cooler color of the tmb bo. Otherwise I would say they have equal edge performance. Testing was done on a 10 f5.6 and a 12 dba I dont know the f ratio

How do you hold your EPs between use at night?

Posted By joe colontonio

In florida nobody uses trays or tables more than once.
Most of the people I observe with, return their ep's back to the case usually under a shelter. Dew heaters are usually used also.

I personally use the waist case. I love it.
I use only 1 1/4 ep's and I don't use a dew heater.
They work out perfectly for planetary ep use. I can't understand why they have not caught on.

I carry 6- bo/tmb's, 1-13mm type 6 and 1-35mm ultima.
2 nebula filters, a set of color filters,a red led light and misc. stuff alan wrench etc.
The rest of my ep.s I keep in a lowes metal case.

afaik I am the only one thats uses the waist case at the Chiefland astronomy sight. Joe 8)
