8" SCT Vignetting with a 50mm EP? HELP!

Posted By Alan Lippert

Considering purchasing a 50mm Plossl for my 8" f/10 SCT Telescope. However.. I've heard there might be Vignetting or possbily a black circle in the FOV?? This is all very confusing to me, if anyone knows about this I would appreciate. I would like a nice wide FOV... but I don't want to waste my monety on a 50mm eypiece if it won't work right in my SCT. Thanks!

Will Celestron CG-5 Motors work w/ my Vixen GP

Posted By Alan Lippert

I know this question has probably been posed before, but I'm looking for someone who has actually tried Celestron/Synta CG-5 Motors on a Vixen GP. I simply cannot afford Vixen drives right now and would like some tracking for my Vixen GP now that I have a C8 which pushes the mag up to 300-400x on good nights. Any thoughts, comments, suggestions, appreciated as always!

Best Airline Portable Scopes

Posted By Alan Lippert

I've used the Pronto/TV-76 combination for years as a good airline portable scope, but have opted for a C5 as a travel companion more recently for reasons of light grasp. In giving up some FOV, I gained alot for objects like M57, M13, M81/M82, M31 and a host of other deep sky gems that 3" just can't give me a big enough taste of. I would say the only object I really miss a good 3" refractor for are really wide objects such as the North American Nebula with a filter. I've pondered just about every other options to gain some aperature without going much over the 6-8 lbs for an OTA range. I found the C6 to be just a little more than my Mircostar and Bogen can handle without the shakes. Would love to check out what anyone's ideal airline scope might be.
