Auction Rules

Posted By Steve Fisher

OK, I admit it. At fifty seven I'm not as sharp as I once was.

Where are the rules or terms of service for Auctions?

Your help is appreciated.

Super Bowl Special

Posted By Steve Fisher

So, as of now (02/01/09) my support expires 04/17/09. If I sponsor today for the Super Bowl six month price when will my support end? 02/01/10? 04/17/2010?

If I buy lifetime support will I be covered in the "next life"? I'm not sayin there is one, or isn't one, I'm just asking. grin

Herb, caught your ad

Posted By Steve Fisher

Herb:

Just wanted to let you know that I saw your ad on the new issue of Reflector!

I came home from a day trip and there was your ad looking up at me from the kitchen counter. I had to turn it over to see what magazine it was.

Thought you might want to know.

Search problems? "Site Busy"

Posted By Steve Fisher

Howdy all you heavy users. I'm having problems searching past ads that I have never encountered before.

Seems no matter how much or how little information I enter I get only a red "Site Busy" message. I thought I knew what I was doing but perhaps it is me.

Just thought I'd see if anyone has any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong. I'm trying to look and see what a Meade tripod has been selling for recently. If I enter Meade Tripod, or Tripod, or Meade Field Tripod and set the date back to January or so I get "Site Busy".

Well you get the gist. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

A couple of questions for you Auction Pros

Posted By Steve Fisher

Hi everyone!

I have been running an auction here on A-Mart and while it was going well I have a problem that I would like to ask your help with.

My auction says "Shipping to Continental United States Only" It will include four large boxes. All of a sudden an unrated person from Italy bids on the scope.

I contacted this bidder and told him that IF I were to allow him to bid and he won, I would demand irrevokable funds that must clear before shipping and that if the event of an insurance claim I would be willing to file a claim but will not invest dozens of hours trying to collect as I have done in the past.

Now several P.M.s later he is still bidding and asked if he could pay by Credit Card if he wins. I'm thinking a credit card is a problem because it can always be charged back.

What do you think? Can this be done safely for me and for him? Should I just stick to my guns and tell him "No International Shipping"?

Can I refuse his bid to be fair to those who bid already and followed the "rules" of the auction?

I really appreciate any help you might give me.

Going from Sponsor to Member?

Posted By Steve Fisher

I've tried as much as possible since 2001 to sponsor when I could. I can't imagine being without Astromart.

My Purple sponsorship expires on Monday the 22nd and I am unable to "sponsor" right now but I want to remain a "member" at the $15.00 annual rate for sure.

Problem is when I go to my account menu I only have the option to renew my sponsorship level, and there is no option to renew as a member.

Anyone know how to change to a member? I keep my ratings right? Probably really simple, right? I'm just not around enough to stay informed.

Thanks all.

Meade Lightbridge/GSO Dob Parts

Posted By Steve Fisher

Rod:

I guess I have not been keeping up on the forums lately. I did not know there was debate over the manufacturer of the Lightbridge. I was a Hardin dealer for several years and I have owned literally dozens of different GSO scopes. The minute the box arrived with my 12" lightbridge I knew it was GSO. Almost everything in it is exactly the same as my last 12" DSO's except the center section, (now a truss) and a few significant Meade changes. (base, eyepiece, metal Alt bearings, label, etc.)

I don't know how old of a model DSO you might be referring to but almost everything is interchangeable from DSO's to Lightbridge, I'm even using my Hardin 90 degree finder on my Lightbridge occasionally.

I'm just anxious to see what GSO does with the 16". (mine is on order by the way)

Question

Posted By Steve Fisher

It has been kind of quiet in these posts for the last couple of days. Does this mean a solution is in the works?

I stated earlier that I would not want to pay $5.00 up front for an ad. Having given more thought to that statment it is because I am and have usually tried to be a red level supporter that I feel that way.

As for me when I really stop and think about it it seems to me the simple way If it can be done is that if you want to place an ad you must be a supporter. Buyers, shoppers, tire kickers shouldn't have to pay to get in to have a look other than the $12.00 to become a member and I do understand that.

Support levels might be detemined by the amount of ads you want to run. If you are a flipper and want to run 500 ads a year then a higher level of support should be required than for a member who wants to sell one or two items a year. Still if you want to place an ad you MUST support.

Anybody have thoughts on that.
