GM200 help

Posted By Glen Sharp II

I posted this to the Losmandy group then thought that maybe someone
here would have the info I seek.

Someone out there surely remembers how to disassemble the dec assy on a
GM200. I'm getting one ready to use again and I'd like to have the
encoders working, but I haven't been able to figure out the trick to
disassemble the tangent arm assy. Quite a bit different than the RA
portion, or the G11 I used to have.

Thanks,
Glen

GM200

Posted By Glen Sharp II

Back again,

Still working on the Dec assy of the GM200.
It's a real workhorse of a mount, but.....
I have found the 25T gear that meshes with the 75T dec shaft gear.
I have made several attempts at making a plate to hold the dec encoder.
I finally got one made that lets the gears mesh correctly, but....(there it is again)
The 25T gear is so small that I haven't been able to find one that is made to high enough standards, the center hole is never concentric with the gear diameter.
through about 120 deg of the gear rotation, it's fine. but the opposite 120 deg the teeth are loose enough that I'm always hunting N-S for my target. The 60 deg either side are so-so.

Does anyone out there have any parts or ideas?

Glen

Alignment of Dual Scopes - Need Ideas

Posted By Glen Sharp II

The four screw push-pull will work just fine as you have it drawn, as long as the scopes are fairly close to start with.
That's almost exactly the way I've done it in the past. After getting the scopes aligned that way I measured and then shimmed the rings to keep it aligned. Shims available at Mcmaster-carr, or at Stock Drive Products, all kinds of them!! If you just leave the rings resting on the screws, you are also using the OTA as a structural member to prevent the rings from twisting. I don't think that would prove to be a good long term idea.

It was a shock to me when I saw the "your subscription has expired" message. I've been a member since 2002 and have supported a few times. I hadn't been on for a couple of months and it was totally unexpected to have to support again to even log on.I knew the free ads couldn't go on forever, not at the rate prices are going up on everything. However, I would have appreciated at least an email warning me of the change. Oh well, it's still very inexpensive for the service provided. Clear skies all.
