The "best" observing chair?

Posted By Doug Graham

I have seen many versions of the Denver Chair for observing. My main objection with these is that you have to stand up and physically reposition the chair's seat height.
A pneumatic chair would be very nice, but the ones that I have seen only have a height range of about 5 inches. I would really like one that can travel from 15 inches above ground to about 30 inches. Does anyone here use a chair like this?

Pentax PF-80 ED spotting scope?

Posted By Doug Graham

This scope has caught my interest as it uses 1-1/4 inch eyepieces. I have a telescope, and would get dual usage for my eyepieces. My issue is that I have not heard much about this spotting scope. I would like to hear your opinions and experiences.
Also, has anyone tried the Pentax zoom eyepiece with the spotting scope?
Thanks,
Doug

Orion Accessory Case

Posted By Doug Graham

I like the looks of the Orion eyepiece cases with the precut holes, but I like to keep caps on my eyepieces. Are the holes large enough to allow for caps? Any problems with the foam breaking down?
Thanks,
Doug

How to shorten a Refractor tube?

Posted By Doug Graham

Yes, this sounds crazy. I have an Orion 80mm ED scope that I want to use for terestrial viewing. With the 2 inch Williams Optics prism diagonal that I purchased, I do not have enough "in" travel to bring all of my eyepieces to focus. So how would you go about this with a minimum of expense.

Thanks,
Doug

Searching for a Spotting Scope

Posted By Doug Graham

Jerry,
Sorry, I don't have experience with the Celestron Ultima 80ED. Is this a spotting scope or a telescope? The difference being that a spotting scope has a built in correct image diagonal, and is more for terrestrial viewing.
You might compare it to the Orion 80ED telescope. I have an Orion 80ED that I use for spotting birds and some quick celestial viewing. I feel it is a good scope for the price. Keep in mind when you buy a telescope, it may not include eyepieces, a diagonal, mount or tripod.

Blue Jay

Nice shot! Blue Jays are one of my favorite birds. Are you using a blind for these shots? I'm curious to hear what set up you are using.
Thanks,
Doug
