How to build an MTF of various aberrations?

Posted By Maxim Usatov

Dear Colleagues,

I am doing a study (just out of curiosity really) on the impact of turbulence on telescopes of various sizes and quality. I am stuck - can't find any info how to build a MTF curves of various aberrations resulting from, say, central obstruction, surface roughness or spherical aberration. Google outputs lots of basic info but no formulas. It seems that such applications like Aberrator do the job but authors do not describe the methodology applied.

I would appreciate your help very much!

High-Res Photosphere Solar Granulation via 0.28m S

Posted By Maxim Usatov

Hi all!

I am pleased to present my Solar granulation shot I did with the C11-SGT XLT telescope in Prague, Czech Republic.

(~1.5 Mb JPEG)

The angular size of the granules is 1 to 1.5 arcsec, while the dark channels are approximately 0.1 to 0.3 arcsec.

Techniques used were:
Registax4: Aligning, Selecting Best Frames, Optimizing, Stacking, Wavelets
MaximDL: Lucy-Richardson Deconvolution, Automatical Background Flattening
Michael Vinther's Image Analyzer: Wien filter Resize
QE Labs SuperResolution 0.1.0.550 Beta: Resolution Enhance

I think this is a really good result for an amateur instrument, especially when we are doing cost per resolution comparison:

Thanks for looking!
