hi, im new here, i just bought my first real telescope, i had a meade DS-60 given to me by a friend, it works to see some stuff and peaked my intrest.

i found a cave astrola 8" F/6 scope on ebay, and bought it. it came with a large GEM mount and clockdrive. the mirror says #M738616 47 7/8 nov 6 '73 on the side of it.it has some "stains" on the edge and some small spots on it....

can someone pls give me an estimate on the cost of refinishing, or re-silvering the mirror and where would i look to get it done? and if i should redo the main mirror, should i get the small one in the front(on the spider) redone too?

here is apic of my wife and our newest addition to the family, an 8" cave astrola, me and my dad got it on e-bay to restore.... it offers some great views, but we will send the mirrors in for recoating. the main mirror has a couple spots on the silver, and the secondary is in great shape. the guy we got it from said he found it in his uncles attic, it had been there for 30 years.... the mirror is marked #M738616 F/6 47 7/8 FL Nov6 '73

its our first "real" telescope!

hi, here's what i want to do....

i have a 8" cave astrolla telescope, i also have a meade ds-60, i want to piggy back the meade on the cave, and use it as a kind of bigger finder scope..

can anyone point me in the direction as to where i can find rings to mount it to the cave? kind of like the rings that hold the cave 8x50 finder that came on it, with the 3 "set screws" for lining it up. the rings i would need would be like 4 1/2- 5" in diameter to fit the meade. are there such available? and what the cost of rings like these, im on a TIGHT budget.

i recently purchase a used cave 8" F/6 telescope with 3 eyepieces,and am wondering what the true market value of it may be? me and my dad bought it to restore, and it is in total orig shape, was in an attic for 30 or so years.....it is made in 73 and has orig. mirror in good shape.

hi, i have a question regarding ep's, now im very new at this hobby, have just bought a well used scope (cave 8" F/6) made in 1974,and it came with 3 old ep's, now ive got the scope all set up and collimated, have had it out 6 times, now, the ep's that came with it are a 40 mm kelner, and 2 ortho's ,a 4mm, and a 6mm.

to cut to the chase, the orthos look like they were dissasembled at one time, i am getting blurry views with them. i was looking at a budget set of ep's and was wondering what you more experienced thought of my selection? its a full 9 piece set(from 4mm-40mm) there Super Plossl and made by GSO (i think)

should i invest in these with maybe a 2x barlow. would i get a better idea what my mirror is capable of with such a set? the price seems alright. i want to recoat my mirror, and maybe get it refigured, but want to see what it does with new ep's first.....and i cant afford 100$+ ep's!
