Meade 4000 Super Plossl "Japan" 4 or 5 element

Posted By bill huber

Does anyone know if all Meade Series 4000 Super Plossl eyepieces, "Japan" made versions, are 5 element type?
There is the "Japan" made version -Smooth-Side- which I'm sure is a 5 element type, but is the newer "Japan" made version with rubber eye cup on top a 4 or 5 element type?
Does the 4 or 5 element type perform better?
BTW: I'm looking for a 6.4mm "Japan" EP.

8.4mm - 8.7mm ?

Posted By bill huber

Did anyone make EPs in these fl:
8.4, 8.5, 8.6 & 8.7mm
I have seen the big 8.8mm by Meade.
Between 9mm-10mm, I have seen Meade 9.5mm 3000 & 9.7mm 4000
Between 6mm-7mm, Meade has a 6.7mm / 6.4mm & UO had a 6.5mm
It just seems like there is not much available between 8mm to 9mm?

Meade MA 4mm

Dave,
A short barlow with your 9mm would be a high powered eyepiece for starparty use that has enough eye relief for eyeglass wearers. Otherwise most 4mm EPs will not have enough eye relief for eyeglass wearers. 2x barlow with your 9mm would be like a 4.5mm EP

Celestron Ultima 2x or Televue 2x Barlow?

Which would you choose and why to amplify volcano top UO orthoscopics and an 8mm Brandon in an f/8 6" Newtonian?
I have a Celestron Ultima 2x, but it seems to act like a 2.2x
If that helps you?
Never used a Televue 2x Barlow

Barrels stuck- what to do?

Posted By bill huber

Stuck... Try to get them cold in freezer for about 1 hour.
Then try to unscrew.
Why? Thermal expansion of materials may change size more on one material then other.
