Re: Double stacking reducers ?

Posted By Josep Maria Aymami

Hi Steve,

Some years ago an article on S&T analysed a series of different focal reducers for SCs. As a final experiment the authors tried stacking diferent reducers with acceptable results. I cannot recall when the actual article was published but I guess you could find it.

While using a ST7 CCD (with its small chip) until last year myself, I tried all sort of combinations with different reducers. I wanted to obtain a lower resolution that what the 6.3 yielded. For your info, my best results were with a 3.3 Meade reducer and a 6.3 Celestron stacked together. Of course the field illumination was very uneven, but flats solved this issue and stars were reasonably round in the small chip area.

Hope it helps,
