LX-200 Vibration

Posted By John Neyland jr

Can anyone tell me if moderate vibration is basically "normal" for lx-200's? If it is can it be balanced
out or do I have another problem.

Lx-200 Wobble

Posted By John Neyland jr

I have a 1 year old LX-200 that seems to have developed a
"wobble". This wobble is most obvious on the slew speed and seems tolerable on lowers speeds. Am I crazy or do I have a problekm with my drive? Any suggestions would be greatly apprciated.

Sbig STV- Deluxe Review

Posted By John Neyland jr

Does anyone have experience with this ccd and video cam outfit. What are its best uses and what are its weak points? I have a long focal length scope and thinking about
geting into ccd but the video side also appeals to me. Mostly I want to use it for planetary imaging. Basicaly
my question is.. How will the STV-Deluxe be for use with
my new 7" Meade Mak-cass? I have read Ron's book but am still unsure about what system to go with.

Sincerely,

John Neyland Jr.

Sony CCD entry level pic

Posted By John Neyland jr

This pic was taken as an entry level attempt at planetary
astrophotography. Scope is a 7" Meade Mak Cass. Camera a
Sony Video feed with frame exported. Hopefully this will
encourage some of the newer entry level imagers get a feel for what a $500 camera set-up can bring first night out.
Picture is even clearer than the photo shows on screen here shows. Clear skies!

Meade lx-200 16" vs 7Mak"

Posted By John Neyland jr

Ok fellow Astromarters, I need your help and I need it reasonably quick. Here it it.. I currently have a 7" meade Mak that I love for viewing planets and some DP stuff. I do a little ccd stuf and would like to buy a real camera in th efuture. My problem is now I have this unbelievable opportunity to buy a almsot new 16" scope and do not know what to expect out of in comparison to my 7". I hear things about resolving power and and light gathering ability. How do these apply to seeing conditions in the middle of the road. Am I better moving up or staying put.
App fever is dangerous. All I think about is getting this scope.
Any advise and experiences with the two scopes is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely,

John Neyland Jr

Prime Focus or Eyepiece projection

Posted By John Neyland jr

This image was taken last month with a sony video camera at prime focus. In an attempt to do better I decided to try the eyeypiece projection method and was completely unsuccesful.
My scope has a long focal length of 2650 mm @F15 and I wonder why one method seems so much more effective than the other? I much prefer the prime focus method illustrated here..but would love to hear suggestions from people who have experience with both successfully. And what lens worked better than others.
