New Telescope

Posted By erik minner

Hi, I am relatively new to telescopes...and this forum. I need help choosing what telescope to get. These are the Orions that I am looking for. My main ambition is to have a telescope I can see the main planets with (well) and I would like to be able to look into deep space. I am not at all concerned with terrestrial objects. I have done quite a bit of looking around and this is the best I can come up with, I just need some advice from some people who know more than I do. Thanks!

Collimation

It is my understanding that when using the red dot finder to collimate my new telescope, I want the red dot to apear exactly in the center of the primary mirror (there is a small circle in the center)? That is what I have done and for some reason the image of the moon after collimating my telescope seems slightly out of focus (it also could be the cloud cover though) compared to right before I adjusted the secondary mirror. Also I noticed that there is some small specs of debris in the primary mirror, what should I do to remove it?

Thanks in advance!

Is the dobsonian going to be stable on the ground, what are my options for steadying the scope on uneven ground?

Big government on our backs

It certainly seems adequate for the article to end with the report that the caribou herd would not be harmed. , since we are all getting filthy rich off of oil who cares about some animals anyway? Or for that matter humanity? The more I read and hear about that administration the more I want my children to be born somewhere else so they do not have to be burdened with this bs. It almost seems like I am reading this out of a history book; people being murdered for simply reaching conclusions that differ from what the "powers that be" want you and everyone else to believe. We are at a critical point in history for America; I believe that in the next 3 or 4 years there are going to be some radical changes, but nothing compared the the changes we will have to endure in the next 20 or so years. Anyway, global warming is real and we have to STOP BUYING THEIR OIL.
