What should I look for in a refractor Diagonal?

Posted By Kelsey Golden

Hi,

I recently purchased an Orion 80 ED APO which is currently in the mail on its way here. It does not have a diagonal which means I should start looking for one. However, I have very little experience with such things and have no idea what features to look for. I plan to be doing some photography and some visual observing through the scope.

Can anyone describe the basic principles of diagonals and/or point me towards some type of consumer research article regarding shopping for them?

Can't Focus DSI or Webcam in Newtonian

Posted By Kelsey Golden

Hi,

I have a DSI PRO and a webcam which I'm trying to use for auto guided imaging. I was initially planning on guiding with my Orion 80 ED APO and taking photos through my 8" f/5 Newtonion and vice versa. The problem is, neither my webcam nor my DSI can reach focus in the Newtonian as there doesn't seem to be enough in-travel. I believe I am within 1/2" of focus when I reach the end of the tube's travel.

Is there anything I can do to correct this other than just buying a new scope?

Advice on buying a CCD

Posted By Kelsey Golden

Hi,

I'm planning a trip to West Texas in December and am looking into upgrading to a nice CCD camera for the trip.

Previously, I've used a DSLR as my imager in combination with a DSI PRO as an autoguider. I would like to get a decent CCD with as large a chip as possible and still stay under $1000 USD (used or new).

Any advice would be appreciated.

Anyone know of a Manual 7 position 1.25" filter wh

Posted By Kelsey Golden

Hi,

I'm looking for a manual 7 position filter wheel for use with my DSI III Pro. I would like to store my RGB Filters and narrowband filters in the wheel and an IR filter in the nosecone so that I won't have to take flats every night.

Does anyone know if such a product exists? I know there's plenty of motorized wheels out there but I don't want to pay more for the wheel than I did for my camera!
