What's in a name?

Not trying to make a partisan point here but just an observation. Unfortunately it will come out sounding partisan, I'm sure. I find it amusing as I read through this forum that in almost every post someone finds a way to get in a new name for their "favorite" politician. From "shrub" to "McSame", etc. Certainly I've seen a reference to a Dem also, e.g., O'Carter, maybe calling him "Hussein" on occasion. But am I wrong to believe the left leaners (those fitting that description based on my interpretation mind you) seem to use this tactic more than the right leaners? I've only seen a couple name changes for Obama but my goodness...how many of these have we seen?...
McSame;
McBush;
McRich (saw that today for the first time);
McLame;
oh, and let's not overlook these gems...
"Deadeye" Dick Cheney;
Darth Cheney;
Rummy;
Dubya;
Schwarzenegger: "Der Gropenfuhrer";
McCain actually called Obama "Dr. No", in reference to his energy and drilling policies I believe;

There are a number of others I've seen used in this forum but they slip my mind right now. Regardless, I'm finding it a bit amusing. Am I wrong though in my perception this is more of a left tactic?

Hey, I'm a Republican but can see the writing on the wall. Obama has a hour long press conference in the middle east this morning broadcast all over the world...looking very presidential btw. And on the opposite side of the spectrum we get this...

...one reporter (I think he was from the Manchester High School Gazette, not sure) showed up for McCain's arrival in Manchester, NH yesterday. :S At least McCain waved to him. I think that's the highest I've ever seen him raise his arm, you know with the water-boarding and all...

Swiftboaters AWOL?

We need a good Swiftboat campaign against Obama, perhaps suggesting his claims of being a community organizer aren't true; or another classic movie by Michael Moore maybe suggesting McCain's 5 years in a POW camp were really spent in Canada. This election season is getting redundant. Where are these guys when we need a good spicing up of the election? Is it too earlier?

BTW, I believe also it was Michael Moore who suggested if McCain had access to government health care (or Cuban doctors) he would be able to lift his hands above his head by now. Then he quite possibly could reach that government cheese on second shelf. wink

Obama v. McCain v. Space

Rod provided a good post recently reference the campaigns and space. It prompted to me do a little more research on it. While I doubt this issue will have a significant impact on how people vote, I found it interesting, perhaps you will also since I assume if you're on this forum you are likely "pro-space exploration".

Anyway, everything I see indicates to me McCain is somewhat more supportive of space exploration (I'm open to someone showing me something contrary). Obama wants to delay our return to the moon by 5 years to pay for some education initiatives. While I'm all for education initiatives ( the right ones anyway) I hate to see the NASA budget slashed once again.

Any thoughts? Is it only geeks like us that consider this?

The comments are as well, especially since they don't come from the usual suspects in Politics forum.

B. Clinton v. Obama

Former President Bill Clinton still refuses to say Obama is ready to be president. Considering Clinton has a similar "American Idol" type following as Obama I wonder how much, if any, impact this may have on Obama's chances. I'm sure there's some bitterness involved here but he has yet to confirm he'll go to the Democratic convention either. If he doesn't, I believe that might be the biggest news that comes out of either convention (other than of course who's balloons dropped on cue).

Pelosi's book...

I'm assuming there are folks here that are among the 5000 or so who have bought her book in the first two weeks of its release. Children's books from unknown authors sell better than that. As you can imagine, I would never read it. But I'm curious to hear views on this. What is it about it? Is it political in nature with policy positions and the like? Is it a personal triumph story. Both of those would bore me to death when it comes to her but I'm curious as to why at least the left isn't scarfing this book up? To me it's a clear statement by the American public suggesting they don't really care about her political views or personal story. Am I wrong?

BTW, if you are one that bought it, I'd hold on to it. It may have some significant value 50 years from now due to limited distribution. smile
