Vixen NA140 Neo Achromat

Does the Petzval design of this scope eliminate the blue halo around stars that is typical of an achromat combined with digital SLR?? :S

120ED vs. 111EDT

Posted By Len Jugus

I hate buying a scope without some reviews to compare. I'm considering the purchase of an Orion Eon 120ED or an Astro-Tech 111EDT. On one hand the Orion has an FPL-53 element though still a doublet and on the other hand the Astro-Tech is a triplet but of unknown glass type. I plan to use the scope for both visual work and imaging with my D-SLR. I know the larger aperture could show more color, but it has alonger f/ratio and supposedly better glass but the smaller aperture has a shorter f/ratio and a triplet lens which supposedly provides superior color correction especially for astro-photography.
Any and all comments are welcome.

Thanks,

Len J.

Lens Cap for 8.125" Dew Shield

Posted By Len Jugus

I recently completed a 6" refractor project. The Dew shield is slightly larger than 8"; 8.125" to be exact. The tube, mechanicals and objective all went together well, but I'm having trouble locating a decent cap/cover for the dew shield. Any assistance or leads would be appreciated.

Achromatic Full Moon

Just a quick note on what can be done with a homemade 6" Refractor (doublet Meade) w/flocking and baffles. As you can see there is some minor yellow fringing on the one edge but other than that it came out pretty clear.

Wide field M13

Peter,
Absolutely great shot. I have a digital SLR but because of light pollution I'm limited to 40 sec exposures @ 400 or 800 ISO. What software do you use to stack your exposures and are they stacked as raw or JPEG images. Thanks in advance.

Whats a good pier for a Paramount ME?

Posted By Len Jugus

On the Cloudy Nights website, one of the advertisers on the right side of the panel is called Pier Tech. They show all types of piers including some with the Paramount ME installed. Give it a try.
