Does any body know how I can mount the head of an Orion EQ1 mount to a more stable tripod than the one supplied with it by Orion?

Thanks

Orion 6" Newtonian imaging OTA

Posted By Gary Calobrisi

I like to get started in astrophotography. Does anyone know anything about the Orion 6" Newtonian imaging OTA?

http://www.telescope.com/control/product/~category_id=optical_tube/~pcategory=telescopes/~product_id=09786

It is pretty reasonably priced and has some nice features.

If you have any knowledge about this product your input would be appreciated.

Thanks

Need some advice

Posted By Gary Calobrisi

I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on mounts capable of being used for imaging.

With a scope 31 inches long and that weighs with accessories about 15 lbs would any of these mounts be adequate:

Celestron CG5-ASGT

Meade lxd 75

Orion Skyview pro with GOTO?

Thanks for any input on this.

Focusing Problem - Celestron SP C102

Posted By Gary Calobrisi

I was hoping someone could help me with a problem I am having with an "old" Celestron SP C102 (F9.8) I just purchased on CN classifieds. It's in pretty good condition but I can't seem to get it to focus with most eyepieces. Also it won't focus at all with a barlow. The problem is that the the focuser won't travel "in" enough. I am using an astro tech diagonal.

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks

Need some advice!!

Posted By Gary Calobrisi

I just purchased a Celestron C8 on Astromart. Its the Carbon Fiber model. It arrived about a week ago. It appears to be in excellent condition - like new.

Last night was the first night I was able to use it. I found two significant problems:
(1) I could not get it to come anywhere near focus
(2) While attempting to focus the image moved all over the place.

Given that I am a complete neophyte with this type of scope I was hoping that someone could give me some advice and point me in the right direction.

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Objective sources

Posted By Gary Calobrisi

I was wondering if anyone knows of a source for a replacement objective lens for an Orion 120 f/8.3?

Also any recommendations for books on how to install a new objective if I can find one.

Thanks
