Hi do the backs come off the Tak Mewlon 180 like on the 250s and 300s for more rapid cooling? I know they don't have the electronic secondary focuser, but the Mewlon 250 is out of my price range. Any comments on optical quality? I'm buying a scope for visual use only, I've had a very nice NexStar 11 GPS, but don't want to deal with the weight. How does the Mewlon 180 compare with the Intes M715 Deluxe?

Hi, I just bought a used Mewlon 250, haven't gotten to first light yet but did set it up yesterday. I put my AP MaxBright 2" diagonal directly into the visual back but could almost but not quite reach focus with my 35mm Panoptic. Not enough "in" focus on the electric focuser, plenty of "out focus. The electric focuser is working correctly it seems as it moves the secondary and I can see a nice defocused circle on a tower light 10 miles away. The focus travel problem becomes worse with shorter focal length eyepieces. I'm sure some has dealt with this before. By the way, I do NOT have a cassegrain focuser on it, but would love to put on a FeatherTouch crayford eventually.

While everyone is going gaga over the Ethos (from what I hear they're amazing eyepieces), I went retro and bought a Zeiss Jena 10-O and Zeiss Jena 16-O for my Mewlon 250 used here on Astromart. Maybe Santa will bring me one of those nice Ethos 13mm eyepieces, it would fit nicely in between ...

Hi, having read a lot about corrected Dall-Kirkham's recently, I was wondering if anyone (either commercially or ATM) was working on a corrector/flattener (not reducer necessarily) for the Tak Mewlons. I own a Tak Mewlon 250 and it produces stunning results on axis, as one would expect given Tak quality and the DK design. I wouldn't want a corrector that diminishes the quality of the on-axis results. Can the Tak .8x reducer/corrector/flattener be converted for visual use? I know the TAO 1.6x extender flattens, but I do not think it corrects for coma?

Hi, I've collimated Celestron SCTs before, but am going to collimate the secondary of my Mewlon 250 for the first time since I received it. It's not totally out of collimation but it definitely needs it (I can see the out of focus image (in and out) out of round at 80x, I usually collimated my SCTs until based on Legault's paper at 500x or higher). My question, I know there are three sets of push pull allen head screws and you loosen one slightly then tighter the other slightly. Here's a picture of the front of the Mewlon.



I downloaded the Mewlon 300 manual from the Takahashi Which of the set of screws is the push and which is the pull (brass or silver allen head screws)? Unfortunately the manual in PDF form is missing all of the diagrams. It alos cautions not to loosen the "pull screw too much" which could cause the secondary to fall out and hit the primary! Kind of concerned there....

Any help appreciated.

Does anyone make such a thing (hopefully with a compression ring)? Can the Mewlon 250's light path even make use of it? I was wondering because I became aware of an AP 2.7" rack an pinion focuser at a great price and I know Russell makes an inexpensive 2.7" 85mm Plossl.

My old mount was a Vixen SXW which was definitely marginal for my Mewlon 250. I think I went a bit overboard, but I got "such a deal"! ...
