Aligning A-P Mach1 GTO

Posted By Kelly McGrew

My work requires me to live about 7,500 miles from my A-P scope and mount, so I have only a brief time with them before I must return to the Sandbox. The first time I used them, in August, the alignment was spot-on.

This trip home, though, I can't seem to get the mount properly aligned. I follow the directions but, for example, after Polar aligning on Polaris (redundant, I know) and I direct the mount to slew to, say, Jupiter, the scope is pointed to the horizon in lieu of the zenith.

The date, time, and location all appear to be correct. Should I do a factory reset on the keypad? Is it possible to get the axis hubs out-of-alignment? I really want to get this working like it did the first time so I can enjoy these skies!

Thanks!

Kelly

Permanent Pier Advice

Posted By Kelly McGrew

I'm looking for suggestions for a permanent pier for the backyard. I'll be mounting an A-P 900GTO on it, but if I could get an adapter to permit me to also mount my A-P Mach1GTO that would be even better yet.

I live in Florida, so think humidity. If a sinkhole takes the pier and mount my bedroom is only about 15' away, so there will be bigger fish to fry!

Thanks!

Kelly

Denk II vs. Binotron-27

Posted By Kelly McGrew

How does the Binotron-27 compare to the Denkmeier II Binoviewer? Can the filter holder for the Binotron-27 also be used with the Denk II?

Thanks!

New large Astro-Physics mount

Posted By Kelly McGrew

That's a nice mount and fits a needed niche, but I had just decided to order the 1200GTO when it went EoS. Not having the need to slew an NFL tight-end on my mount, I opted for the 900GTO in lieu of trying to find a 1200GTO used. There go my dreams of an Officina Stellare 360, much to my wife's joy.
