I am this many lbs. overweight - be honest now

Yes, and its why - when I or anyone embarks on a new fitness effort after a longer hiatus, the results peak. First you drop about 10-15 lbs of water retained, then the real weight comes off slowly, then the effect of your resistance training kicks in and the weight starts to actually plateau or even move upward due to muscle gains. This will be temporary, and is why daily weighing is really not very informative. Weekly weighing works well and keeping a journal or a info file assists that.
With just the standard BMI tables, most athletes and especially bodybuilders wind up in obese class. If you are a vegetarian yogi with little muscle mass, you will fit the insurance tables easily.
I think the ratio of muscle mass is 300 percent the mass of normal tissue and 4x that of fat, depending on individuals.
A really good method are pinch tests with a ruler or calipers, these will tell you if you are a lumpy hero!
There is also a infrared detector that gives a good bodyfat percentage and can be read from the hands and feet.
