Deep Sky Imager

Posted By Michael Simonson

Howdy All,

I recently purchased a Meade Deep Sky Imager Pro along with the color filter set this past week. I've had some pretty good success with images from my LPI, so I decided to take the next step.

I've downloaded the all new versions of Autostar Suite, which powers my Meade ETX 105, and even downloaded the newest Registax. The thing is, I'm not really sure how to stack or process images. Aside from adjusting contrast and brightness, how to stack images or compile them is beyond me. If anyone could give me some times as to how to stack my LPI or DSI images, that would be great.

Thanks

Perfect Tracking

Posted By Michael Simonson

Howdy all,

I've been using my Meade ETX 105 here for the past summer, and for some reason, I can barely get the GOTO function to actually, well, go to something. I've learned time must be an exact, as well as global position, but for some reason, my go-tos of Jupiter and Saturn are always on the very edge of my FOV.

As I will try to go to DSO's in the near future, I would like to be able to solve this problem so I can get some centered and "good=looking" DSO's.

Thanks,

Michael Simonson

CCD Cleaning

Posted By Michael Simonson

Howdy All,

With my recent purchase of the DSI Pro, some frustration has come with the package. Even more recently however, my DSI has been taken splochy pictures that lead me to believe the actual CCD is dirty. (AFter cleaning my scope and mirror)

As for now, how can I successfully clean my CCD without causing any Damage? (see the picture below to see dirtiness)

Michael

Mastering the CCD

Posted By Michael Simonson

Howdy All,

I've had a DSI Pro for a while now, and have gotten a pretty good amount of use out of it. I've check out Jupiter, the Moon, and other basic things before delving any deeper. Recently I've had some pretty good luck with M13, and have spotted M27, but I'm finding it difficult to really be able to successfully locate DSOs in my FOV for the DSI Pro.

My current gameplan is to use my GOTO function to find the object, find and center it in a standard eyepiece, find and center it with my x2 Barlow, then slide on my camera.

I'm not sure if the weight of the camera is throwing things off here or if I'm just missing something.

Michael

Ps. Darks are taken, auto-contrast is on, exposures are set and focused. I can see and get good images of stars, but no STAR DUST or galaxies.

Orion Object

Hello,

I've been starting to get comfortable with my DSI Pro and was working a little with the Orion Nebula, and on one of my images appeared this little dash.

Check out the attached photos, I'm not sure what to think of it. I think it may be a shooting star, if so, verification would be nice. Thanks!

Photographing and Processing M31

Posted By Michael Simonson

Hey Gang,

I was out last night taking pictures of M31 at relativly good light conditions, granted the heat. I was producing what I thought to be relativly good raw images, and was excited to come back inside and stack them.

Perhaps I don't quite know how to stack them, but after stacking I seemed to see even less definition than my actual raw images. I was taking 30 second exposures (which I'm not sure are long enough?) and the images below is a combination of 15 of them. I use Registax and the only way I could get the images to line up was to stack manuelly.

All images are taken through a Meade Etx 105, with a DSI Pro Monochrome.

You can see the images aren't the quality I know the DSI Pro is capable of. Is there something I can do to make these images brighter? More contrasted? Or at least so my M31 looks like a galaxy?

(attached to this one is a raw images, and attached to my next post is the stacked)

Here is the picture immeadiatly after, you can see it seems as though the object is moving.

(Also, apologies for the upside-downness)
