TeleVue Nagler 31mm Type 5 Eyepiece

Posted By Micheal Fields

I've been looking at this eyepiece for my Celestron CGE Pro HD 1400.

Opinions on this eyepiece? Is this a good power for this size telescope? Almost F/11 with a 3910mm focal length. Seems like a lot of money but I hear good things.

Which eyepieces would you consider for this telescope?

I appreciate any help you can throw my direction.

binoviewers

Posted By Micheal Fields

I was contemplating the purchase of a good quality binoviewer and two identical eyepieces for viewing. Not just for myself but so my 4yo daughter can look through it easy and I can set up my telescope at community events and let people look through it in a more natural less narrow field of view.

So if you have a binoviewer and use it a lot, like gazing at the stars through one, could you please reply with the brand and model you are using?

Also a second question, what is a good FoV to look at in an eyepiece when used with a binoviewr? Is having two 83degree naglers about right or am I going to overlap? Maybe get two 50degree?

Help me decide please

Posted By Micheal Fields

I am getting a little back on my taxes this year so I am going shopping for some telescope accessories. First on my list was a TV Ethos eye piece. After that I wanted to spend some money on equipment for deep sky imaging. Right now I own a unmodified canon rebel xti also known as a 400D. I bought the adapters required to mount to my telescope. My telescope happens to be still on order (EdgeHD 1400) so I haven't tested this potential set up yet. However, I am also strongly considering the Orion StartShoot Pro and I feel that it has some positives over the dslr camera I have. For one I won't have to modify my dslr, second is that it can do very long exposures which would eliminate much of the stacking I'd need to do. I see some used for under $1,000.00 but I don't know anything about deep sky astrophotography (yet). I really could use some advice on this. Should modify my dslr and use that? Use it unmodified? Or should I go ahead and grab the StarShoot Pro? Is it even a good device? I'd like to spend less than $1,000. However if there is a DSCCD device that is really outstanding for just a little more I'd be willing to spend extra. I bought this telescope for deep sky observing and photograhpy equally.

One further question if you don't mind. I (will) have the CGE-Pro mount which I understand is really accurate. Do I still need a object tracker for this or would my mount be good enough?

Thanks in advance for any help you could provide.
