Flare in eyepieces

Posted By Steve Belliveau

I was using a light polution filter with a Celestron Ultima 32mm and got a weird light glare? I think I also get this glare with other eyepieces. Does any one know what causes this and how can I minimize it. I am using a 8 inch f6 Starfinder scope.

Celestron Starhopper mirror

Posted By Steve Belliveau

I have a Celestron Starhopper 8" f6 that has a curved mirror blank. The primary mirror is held in place with a bolt in the center to the collumation screws and holder. This mirror is hard to collimate correctly. Has anyone had experience with this scope or mirror?

Leaving my 8 " Dob in unheated garage

Posted By Steve Belliveau

Mey Dob takes up space and I was wondering if I can leave it in my unheated garage. I do cover it with end caps and a big plastic bag to keep dust out. I was wondering if the mirror might be adversely effected by keeping it there. I live near Chicago and it does get very cold.

Thanks Steve

Good book on Star Testing your Scope

Posted By Steve Belliveau

I have a 8" f6 and have tried to collminate it the best that I can with a Chesire. (A) I am looking for books that show me how to do star test with my scope to further fine tune my collumation...etc.

(B) Also, I heard of a trick where you put a mask with 2 large holes equal distant fron the center and look through your scope. I think that the idea here is to look through the scope and see if the 2 holes only appear as on hole. IF so you are in perfect collmination. Does this work?

Thanks, Steve B

Horizantal Dob Collmination

Posted By Steve Belliveau

I am working on my 8" f6 dob and I have know that when you put your dob in a near horizontal postion and look down the tube you should see the central obstuction or you eye in the center of the primary mirror.

(1) Does any one know what you should see if the Dob is collimated correctly?

(2) What is the name of this test?

(3) Is this printed in any book?

Thanks a million
