Hi all, I'm getting back into the hobby after many years away. I bought the Meade LS 6 inch last year but it is just too small a scope and I have a limited open sky view which makes the LS features a waste. I plan to sell it on this site and buy a good, used larger scope. (Will of course cost more than I get for the LS 6!) I will be observing and not doing astro photography. For the same money, I can get a good used 11 inch Nexstar type scope or maybe a 14 inch DOB. Any thoughts or comments by any of you with greater experience with both types of scopes? I'm nervous about tracking planets with the DOB at moderate magnifications, say 100 X.

I have restored an older Celestron Super C8Plus and want to make the most out of its capability. I have a set of the Meade 1.25 inch 4000 series eyepieces and filters but see 2inch is also an option with this scope. I want to buy a couple of higher end eyepieces to use with the C8. I would appreciate any suggestions on the 2 inch vs the 1.25 inch and which 2 higher end eyepieces would be a good choice. Thanks for reading this post and for any suggestions!

Hello and thanks for reading this post. I am trying to decide between a new Meade 10 inch LX90 with The ACF optics vs. a pre ACF 10 inch LX200 with the GPS and UHTC. Does anyone have any thoughts they would share regarding the trade off between the "advanced coma free" optics and the higher spec LX200 series. Both are 10 inch scopes. Thanks for any thoughts!

Hello all,

I just took delivery of a new Orion XX16g and the engineering looks just amazing. I'm moving up from a Meade Lightbridge 12 and there is just no comparison in the quality of things like covers, counter weight mounts, etc. Really impressed. This scope is really heavy though and the goto function needs a level base. What are others with larger DODs with tracking/goto doing to level the base? I bought the wheelbarrow style wheel kit but not the 4 wheel cart which just seems too big.

Appreciate any ideas.
