Is the North Star true North?

Posted By Lawrence Karas

Is it best to center the Noth Star with a crosshair eyepiece for alignment? Or is true North a little off-center? If so, which way? I'd like to understand this for alignment accuracy in a Go-To system.
Thanks,
Larry

Spoke with Bill B. this morning via e-mail. He is going to consider offering the attractive Red-Oak tripod w/ a GEM-3 head for the above telescope. Should make an attractive and sturdy set-up.

Controlling Mars Brightness

Direct observation of Mars with a number of different eyepieces failed to resolve any detail (too bright). Color filters help a little. What is the best way to observe details on Mars?

Can anyone confirm that the most recent version of the above EP (sells for $228) is still made in JAPAN and not a Chinese clone?
Many Thanks,

Hi Max,
I've been using one for approximately 4 months. It's been great. I use it to control an Apogee 80mm wide-field refractor and a giant 20 x 80 pair of binoculars. Super quiet and extremely well made. I believe the maximum payload is 6 lbs. -Larry
