Is Celestron planning UHTC?

Posted By Ron Scarboro

I've always preferred Celestron products to Meade's. However, the views from a 10" Meade with UHTC was noticable better than one without. Is Celestron planning on these new coatings?

LX200 GPS Max Piggyback weight

Posted By Ron Scarboro

I've currently got a 80mm Stellarvue mounted on an LX90 (properly counterweighted). I'd like to piggyback a larger refractor, but I don't think the LX90 will handle it.

What is the most weight you can piggyback on an LX200GPS (properly counterweighted of course.

Since the mounts seem to be the same for the 8" through 12" are there differences?

How do we get a Nexstar9.25 GPS

Posted By Ron Scarboro

There isn't an answer for this, but if you're a dealer watching this site then tell Celestron they can sell at least one.

Meade customer support KUDOS

Posted By Ron Scarboro

I know they can have a bad rap, but I had a good and prompt experience I thought I'd share.

I've mounted an ST AT1010 on the back of an LX90 (counterbalanced of course). I'm sure the weight had contributed to some slop in the Dec drive.

Instead of reading me the riot act on why it was sloppy, he suggested several possible problems. With his help I was able to fix it by restretching the tensioner spring on the clutch and tightening some bolts.

Re: CELESTRON GOING UNDER?

That sounds completely backward. My understanding is that the management of Celestron is in the process of buying the company out of Tasco's bankruptcy.

Meade Microscopes #9460

Posted By Ron Scarboro

Does anyone have any experience with this microscope, or Meade's in general.

In addition, is the barrel .96 or 1.25? Will some of my telescope eyepieces work?

Thanks
Ron

C 9.25 SGT Stable?

Posted By Ron Scarboro

This telescope is mounted on a CG5. My questions is....

I've owned a CG5 before when I had a TV101. It was plenty stable then used for visual work. Does anyone know the maximum capacity of the mount?

Is this mount OTA combination stable enough for visual use.

Thanks as always,

Ron

Stupid question about solar observing

Posted By Ron Scarboro

I am a complete novice to solar viewing. I have a routine white light filter and enjoy it. However, I see these mega expensive H-alpha solar filters/telescopes advertised from time to time and the pictures look intoxicating.

Is there any advantage to having an night sky h-alpha filter on the eyepiece (the kind lumicon and others sell) in conjunction with a white light solar filter in front of the telescope? I understand it wouldn't rival the expensive filters but could it put more detail into the surface of the sun?

Lumicon warns against solar visual viewing with the filter, but I think that is direct viewing.
Is it dangerous?
Anyone ever tried it?
