binos

Posted By Douglas Maier

Hismile
What does the first number mean with binoculars? Such as 15X80. The 80 means each individual main lense measures 80mm acroos, right? What does the 15 mean? Is it the focal length? If not, how do you figure the focal length? Why do binos cost so much less than 2 refractor telescopes of the same aperature? I am thinking of buying a pair for astronomy, but first I need some infomation about them.
Thanks,
Doug

TV 85 vs. Tak FS78

Posted By Douglas Maier

Which is better? I am looking for opinions backed by experience with both, not just aperature rules and I never looked through either. I own both and am having a hard time trying to decide which to keep. The views on both are excellent and I can't see much of a difference in brightness. Both star perfect. All experienced opinions welcome. I wish I could keep bothsmile The best night I get where I am is about a six, so some Clear sky opinions would be nice.

120 Refractor or 150 mak cass?

Posted By Douglas Maier

Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has had the opportunity to observe through these two scopes side-by-side and has an opinion on which is superior? I am referring to something in the area of a 4.7" skywatcher or Orion 120mm vs. an Orion Argonaut 6" Mak Cass.
Thanks for your input,
Doug
