TAL-100 RSM 100mm f10 refractor

Posted By Robert Ellis

Does anyone own one of these Russian telescopes? I'm giving some thought on purchasing a good refractor without haveing to purchase a dozen or so telescopes and I've heard the russian optics are superior to the chinese optics. Does anyone have an opnion on this. I am looking for a good refractor under a$1000.00 of possible.

How Long...........

Posted By Robert Ellis

Herb a question if I may. Will some of the questions be coming off. I can't believe that you will have 500+ pages of any subject. The equipment forum now has 10 pages and climbing. Should there be a time limit and they auto come off? Second could you put a subject on equipment makers TALscopes? You have almost all and not them. If nobody adds to it take if off. Just a suggestion. You and your group are doing just a total super job running this site and whatever you deside its just fine with ole viperbob.
thanks bob

Eye Patch ???

Posted By Robert Ellis

I've been told when starting out with a telescope for the first few times a "eye patch" at about 3 dollars will help with learning what to see and by not squinting with the not viewing eye it will help you "learn to look". I don't know if this is true, but I find it hard to think that a 3 dollar investment will NOT help as it will keep both eyes natural.
This is regardless of the eyepience. To ask a dumm question, is this true?

Filters

Posted By Robert Ellis

Herb you may want to put in a forum for filters. Your eyepiece forum is a great idea and filters may or maynot work. Just something to think about.
Thanks for any trouble. Can't tell you how much i love this site. You have come a long way with this place. Great Job!

Local Store in New Jersey

Posted By Robert Ellis

I know this has probably talked about before but I'll try again. Is there a local store in New Jersey that sells telescopes? With all the ho-ra about what scope to buy or not, there has to be a "good" store with people who will take the time and show and explain the in's and out's of each scope. Seeing is better then taking a chance on the net for the "first" scope. After that the next scope can come from the net. Any help will be appreciated. The thought of a "wal-mart" kind of store to buy gives me the shivers.
Many thanks for any help.

What eyepieces should I have.....

Posted By Robert Ellis

I've narrowed it down to two telescopes for sale on Astromart. 1. Celestron C-8 f/10 (black body) no go-to and 2. a f/6 Discovery 8" Dob DHQ. What scope should I buy first and what eyepieces should I get with each scope? The ep's that come with both are probably crap and I want to take advantage of the "Proper" ep's.
The C-8 is a tad pricer then the Dob but that is to be expected. I like the fact its a no go-to so I can learn the sky and the protability thing, and both are 8" of apeteure.
Thanks for any help. I'm finally going to buy a scope!!

Star Party in New Jersey

Posted By Robert Ellis

If anyone knows of any star party in New Jersey, hopefully in central Jersey kindly post please or leave me an email. I'm in the process of buying my first scope and a star party seems the way to meet people and LEARN.
Thanks.

TeleVue Plossl's

Posted By Robert Ellis

I am looking to upgrade my eyepieces and am in the market for a 32mm, 17mm and a 11mm plossl. What can I expect to pay for used here on Astromart? What do they go for new? Are the ones made in Japan better then the ones now being made elsewhere? Are TeleVue plossl's considered the best in plossl eyepieces?
thanks for any info.
