PST central obstruction?

Posted By Russell Horn

I have spent about four days with my new PST and have come up with a couple of questions. Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

1. The PST front objective looks different from any other Coronado example that I have had the pleasure to use. Does the PST have a central obstruction? Is this a new direction for Coronado or is the etalon hidden behind the objective and its dark coating?
2. Why does the 40mm filter (for stacking) cost twice as much as the PST?

I am happily shocked at the quality of the PST and its views. It seems to show more detail than a Helios 1 that has more aperture (70mm).

Also, I would like to comment that the Cemax 12mm eyepiece is noticeably better than my Nagler and Takahashi eyepieces IMO. My TMB eyepieces would not come to focus.

Lunar Eclipse from North Texas

Posted By Russell Horn

Here is my totality shot from Wichita Falls, Texas. It was taken with a TeleVue 85/Nikon D100 on a non-tracking mount. We had clouds and rain all day. Just as the eclipse started it cleared away until after totality. I feel very fortunate to have experienced this event. The moon looked as though it was illuminated from within. What a sight.

Lunar Occultation

Posted By Russell Horn

Here is a shot of this mornings lunar occultation from a Texas sky. It was shot using a Takahashi FS152 and a Nikon D100 at prime focus. I tried the Phillips webcam, but the light levels were too dynamic.

Saturn on the 12th

Posted By Russell Horn

I finally had good seeing on Saturday night under a Texas sky. We had meteors hitting at 100 per hour all weekend long. Some of them were real burners. Comet Machholz was naked eye, and we saw the NOSS satellites which is an eerie sight to behold for sure. This will be a weekend I will remember for a long time!

Saturn on Christmas night

Posted By Russell Horn

I finally had good skies last Saturday night and think this is probably the best I will get out of the FS152 and Phillips webcam. It was definitely the best view I ever had out of the Tak with the best seeing of the year! For me anyways.

This is my first decent H/A image. I am very much in the learning curve of the processing. Any comments are welcome.
