AP 800 Restore?

Posted By Rolando Chavez

I recently had My AP180 restored and now I'm wondering if it's worth the expense to,restore the AP800 mount that it came with. It needs a hand controller but they're much too expensive $800. I wouldn't mind restoring the mount since it was original with the scope.
I've also considered replacing the DC RA motor with AC synchronous version and using an old school drive corrector.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Scratching the Imaging Itch

Posted By Rolando Chavez

Hi Jeff, For beginners, I would recommend a used Philips ToUCam 840 (color web-cam). All you need to start is the camera and Registax 5 (freeware). If the itch develops into a full blown rash, then you can get one of the high end monochrome cameras with RGB filters, filter wheel or selector and more sophisticated software.
