A real spider in my SCT tube

Thanks everyone for your replies.
I will probably try something with the vacuum and see how it goes from there. I'll let you know, hopefully not in the form of a new thread "HELP, Vacuum hosing stuck in my SCT OTA shocked .

A real spider in my SCT tube

Posted By John Theodossy

Hi all,
Thanks for all your advice. I was able to connect a piece of clear tubing to the vacuum and suck out the little beastie's corpse and the webs through the back end of the scope without a problem.

Thanks to everyone for the input.

ETX-70 Misaligned Tube?

Posted By John Theodossy

Hi Zach,

The setting circle ring can be rotated by loosening the large knob on top of it, so it is not a fixed reference point. When leveling the ETX a small bubble level will work best, but you can probably get close enough just leveling it by eye given the short focal length of the ETX70.

So to answer your questions directly:
a. It is not "misaligned". If you want to use the declination circle to level the tube, just loosen the knob slightly, level the tube with a bubble level, and set the circle to 0 or 90.

b. Alignment and GOTOs will work fine just leveling by eye or a bubble level. A "level"/horizontal tube is your goal.

Have fun
John
