Sebelius Warns Insurers

New health-care law requires insurers to provide coverage even for people who are already sick and forbids them from charging sick people higher premiums than healthy people. It requires all insurance plans to include a host of added benefits and prohibits insurers from capping how much they pay out over a year or a lifetime.

A new report from the gov's own actuaries concludes US health-care spending will rise faster as a result of the new law than if we had done nothing.

I guess Obama needed to lie about the costs to get it passed. This is not a workable plan. Add this to our economic woes and our unfunded liabilities and tell me why politicians are acting like everything is ok.

More Nanny Gov

California banned latches on gas pump nozzles. Now people have to stand close and breathe the fumes as they fuel their vehicles. These are the same idiots that outlawed the gas cans we had forever. They came up with a "spill proof" design and mandated all containers must use it. I have spilled more gas with the new style and I'll bet you have, too. Another brilliant idea was mtbe in our gasoline. Scientists testified in Sacramento against it. Didn't matter. Environmental groups were for it and politicians were for it. Twelve years later they had to admit it was a mistake and remove it. MTBE is in our groundwater and consumers were forced to spend billions of dollars on it and other oxygenates. Science says oxygenates are not cost effective. Decreased miles per gallon offsets any advantage.

Californians elect these idiots. Some want even more government.

The larger the government the smaller the citizen.

Unemployment Benefits

The thirteen month extension isn't cheap. It's about three times what NASA spends. One person suggested the benefits given after a year should be considered a loan! He wasn't a politician. Who could deny benefits this close to Christmas?

NYT-US Troops In Pakistan?

This would be a huge escalation. Obama might be so tired of Taliban running him around that he will do it.

Trainwreck ahead

Politicians would rather talk about Arizona. Congress has put entitlement spending on autopilot and soon tens of millions of people will quit working and contributing and start taking money for retirement. Politicians that said soc sec was ok and just needed some tinkering should be punished. We have over-promised entitlements by tens of trillions of dollars. Think anything will be done in 2012? 2014?

Sturm and Drang

Days of protestations, exaggerations, and insults and not one person was moved to change their thinking on the great gun issue. The last couple of days probably reinforced our low opinion of the other side's arguments.

Reining in entitlements is more important but these cuts could be made.

A good quote: Until recently, politics was only about a few things; today it is about nearly everything.

In the past, when a new program was proposed, a great debate ensued about whether it was an appropriate area for the gov to enter. Not any more.
