astro-tech 127ed

Posted By victor truglio

did anybody catch the astro-tech 127ed. there is a very short supply of these so called triplets being offerd at
a crazy low price.
these scopes were on display at neaf.
the word at neaf, not mine, is that these are the actual 127ed meade scopes that meade never seemed to produce.
astro-tech purchased them from meades chinese supplier
because meade couldnt or never payed the bill.
wow!!

people make offers and then disappear

Posted By victor truglio

i am not sure if this qualifies for a rating issue but,
i have sold some smaller items on astromart, eyepieces, barlows, focusers with no problem.
i now have two scopes listed for sale.
a 12.5 dob, the other 11" celestron.
i can not tell you how many offers have been made on both scopes and either these people seem to vanish after 1 e-mail, take hours to respond, or simply back out with crazy stories the next day after they swear to you its a deal.
people are making offers and then after e-mailing back and fourth for hours, they now need some time to come up with the money, or suddenly have health issues and the scope is too heavy.
where do you draw the line and should these people be rated somehow??
i myself have made offers and asked questions, but if i am not interested i always follow up with another e-mail like:
thanks not interested, or sorry too much for me, but good luck on the sale.

is there such a thing as too big

Posted By victor truglio

from a somewhat urban light poluted sky, is there a point where a scope it too big or is aperture always king. would i benefit from going from an 11" scope to say a 16".
forget about weight and portability.
some people are telling me 10-11" is best unless you are bringing the scope to dark skies.

how old is this c8

Posted By victor truglio

i just picked up a black tube celestron c8 ota.
i am trying to figure out how old it is.
is has special coatings, not starbright.
there is an orange cap over the collimation screws.
the serial number is 828483.
i spoke with celestron, tech support said they cant tell
the age from the serial number which i found odd.
any help??
didnt come with the stock dovetail.
it looks like the sp-c8 or classic c8.
i am guessing mid 80's

c8 vs 8" dob

Posted By victor truglio

if you could only have one, would you rather have a gem mounted f10-c8, no goto, or an f6-8" dob, no goto.
both with good mirrors.
the scope would be used for a little of all types of observing.
no photography.
