AP refractor storage orientation

Hi All,

I received a new 130 GT yesterday and noted the warnings on the packaging to 'please keep horizontal'.

Is this only for shipping, or should it only be stored in a horizontal position too (possibility of damage from a fall or vibration from truck shipment causing alignment issues)? Obviously, they are used in a vertical orientation so it isn't that.

I just don't want to take a chance storing vertically if there is a chance of damage (other than clutziness).

thanks,
matt

Yes, but in use they are supported by the tube, not the ends. If nothing else, storing a scope on end will overly compress the foam in the case because the scope's entire weight will be concentrated in a small area. I always store mine horizontal for that reason.

If this warning is on the packaging, it's to keep UPS from knocking the things by setting them up tall during moving them, etc. There is no danger to storing your refractor in any orientation. The warning is there for the obvious reason... the higher it is, the harder it will fall.

And congratulations you are one lucky guy to get a 130GT. Post some pics for us fanboys.
