Baader/AP Bino

Just ordered a Baader/AP binoviewer and had few questions.

1. I ordered a 2.6 compensator, which means I'll have the 1.25 and the 2.6. Will these focus with a TSA 102? How about a Mewlon 180? Or will I need the Barcon?

2. What is the difference in effect between the Barcon and a compensator (besides magnification) as it regards the quality of the optical output?

3. Will using the Barcon AND a compensator degrade the image quality?

Thanks in advance - and I hope you don't mind me posting this here instead of the Bino Forum - thought it might get a little more attention hear.

Thanks again,
john

John,

A-P's website lists the back focus requirements for various compensators under the Mark V description in 'Visual Accessories.' It will all depend on how much back focus your TSA102 has in reserve. Some apo's can reach focus with NO negative lens. In general, Cassegrain's like your Mewlon have little problem reaching focus.

With regards to optical quality, I don't think you are going to notice any degradation in any configuration with the caveat that Roland recommends increasing magnification ahead of the binoviewer prisms rather than behind (i.e. by using a compensator instead of short f.l. eyepieces).

IMO you have chosen the finest binoviewer available. I love mine.
